Shannon King, 32, of Amityville, was arrested on Monday, May 20, and charged with animal cruelty, said the Suffolk County SPCA.

The animals were discovered when a probation officer was performing a house check on King, who was arrested for the same thing in 2017, the SPCA said.

One dog was severely emaciated and others were in poor condition, dehydrated, confined in cages with feces. The odor was overwhelming. None had water available, the agency said.

All of the animals were transported to Babylon Animal Shelter for care. The house which was deemed uninhabitable by the Building Department.

King was released on her own recognizance and was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, May 21.

"The Suffolk County SPCA would like to thank the Suffolk County Probation Department, the Amityville Village Police Department, the Amityville Village Building Department and the Babylon Animal Shelter for their assistance and cooperation," the department said in a statement.

SPCA Chief Roy Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County.
